Dunstable Downs Walk

Yesterday me and hubby did a 4.5 mile walk from Dunstable Downs which also took in the Whipsnade Tree Cathedral, it was a walk that I had printed off from the National Trust, it was a very pleasant walk, and we will definitely go back to the tree cathedral in spring.

Dunstable downs is a good place to walk from, especially if you are a National Trust member as parking is free and there is a visitor centre and cafe. Also there is great views across the downs with a chance of seeing a few gliders and also some Red Kites.

Also I have bought a launch issue of a new magazine called women's walking, at first look, it looks to be a very useful magazine, training plans, list of events, recipes, tips, health articles. I am going to continue to give it a go.

My husband is going to be running St Albans 10 mile race, on 20th January, will be the first race if the new year, on the Saturday though we are going to the Outdoors Show at London excel centre, it incorporates four shows, The Bike Show, The Active Travel Show, The Outdoor Show and the Boat Show, we went last year and it was quite good, a chance to pick up some freebies also.

Long time no hear!

It has been a long time since I have blogged, so thought it was time to start again.

2012 is nearly over, Ben my husband has run a lot of races this year, and has also run every day this year, and run over 2012 miles this year, he topped the year off by running 36.6 miles.

Races all ready in calendar is Brighton Marathon, there will be a number of local races. Also a possibility of Dublin this year.

For me, the challenges I am planning for walking are Snowdon in June and then a trekathon, I have a couple in mind of South Downs or Spire to Spire, both of these walks are 26 miles, raising money for two charities this year, the Willow Foundation and Walking for The Wounded.

Acquired walking poles for Christmas, ones that were recommended by Country Walking Magazine, all ready for Snowdon.

Maybe a walk in the Ashridge Estate is in order between Christmas and new year...

Races to Come

Hi All,

It has been a while since i have been on here, i am not very good at this blogging :-)

The Brighton Marathon is drawing close, Ben is well into his training plan, he has booked a couple more races into the calender, the Baldock Half Marathon and the Wheathampstead 10k.

Training for the Ben Nevis walk really kicks off in April.  I am off to a Willow Foundation Seminar with Gary Lewin at the Arsenal Training ground this evening, so hope to pick up some advice from him.

We are also off to the Triathlon Show at Sandown Race Course this weekend, to try and pick up some bargains on things, Chrissie Wellington, top female triathlete is going to be there signing copies of her new book.

So the next race is Baldock Half Marathon, i will give a full review on that in due course, this a new race for us.

Bedford Half Marathon 2011 - Review

Ben took part in the Bedford Half Marathon on Sunday 11th December, it was a bit of a cold and windy one, but Ben still came through with another personal best of 1.24.07, i think this was brilliant as there were alot of club runners running this race as it is the last one of the Race calender for clubs.

The Bedford Half is another good one to go and watch, the Race HQ is Wootton Upper School, they provide free parking at a nearby industrial estate and then bus runners in, but we were able to get closer to the race HQ so when Ben was finished we did not have to wait around for the bus, and we were home in 50 minutes. They provide hot drinks, etc in the school hall, so i was able to sit down have a coffee and read some book, until it was time to pop out and watch the runners return, i always make sure that i am out for the winner, as it is always interesting to see what time the winner comes in at.

Ben was very happy with his time, as he has not been feeling particularly great over the last week, even leading up to the morning of the race.  So once again very proud of him.  He is now looking for another half marathon in Feb/March time so that he can improve once again on his time.

Marathon training for Brighton starts on Boxing Day, so he is going to be able to get some nice North Norfolk Sea air in his lungs when the training starts as we are away for Christmas.

Bedford Half Marathon 2011

It has been a while since i have been on here, but Ben is taking part in the Bedford Half Marathon on Sunday 11th December, i remember last year's race being extremely cold and lots of frost on the ground, i actually had to buy a hat at the event, but will go prepared this time.

I will be back on Monday to let you know how things went and a review of the race.

Ben Nevis and Brighton 2012

So, the challenges that are in the diary for next year are:

Ben Nevis -This is going to be my challenge, i am not a fan of hills anyway, and this is the biggest one in the country, i am going to be raising money for The Willow Foundation when doing this challenge, the charity that i support and volunteer for as often as i can. I have been looking into this and the best time to go is between May and November, but have found out that June is a very good time to do this, so potentially aiming for mid June on this and having a holiday at the same time up in Scotland, will keep you all posted.

Ben is going to be taking part in the Brighton Marathon again next year, aiming for that sub three hour finish, he did so well last year in getting the 3hrs 4, what with the heat. I am very very confident that he is going to break three hours. I really enjoyed the Brighton Marathon last year, it is a great one to watch, the halfway point is pretty much just down from the hotel that we stay at, a lot of people came out to watch it last year, and the crowd were very enthusiatic and willing the runners along as well. I would say that is on par with the London Marathon if not better.

I will keep you posted on our training, Ben has got the Bedford Half coming up in December, so will keep you posted on that also.
